When cats were gods . . .

Detailed entry

The myths of Egypt still whisper their secrets upon ancient ground. Many travellers find themselves gazing into the inquisitive eyes belonging to an elegant statue of a seated cat. Around her neck rests an amulet of a winged scarab holding up the rising sun. The story behind that statue has faded from living memory; the sculpter’s hand is now but mere bone; his chisel, a prized artefact; and the cat, from which that statue was carved, long ago transversed the paths of the Egyptian underworld. This is the tale which breathes to life the flesh behind the stone. As a deadly plague spreads over Egypt, Neferure finds herself stranded in the turmoil of death. A promise has been silenced; a piece of her heart torn away; and the high priest of Karnak temple has just been entombed. Burdened by her loss, Neferure seeks to solve a mystery no one else acknowledges, and uncovers a sinister plot threatening all of Egypt - a plot reaching into the realm of gods.
